Robert Rusev Stained Glass

At Robert Rusev Stained Glass, we specialise in the conservation, restoration, and repair of stained glass. With a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship and historic fabric, our studio provides expert services to architects, heritage professionals, churches, private clients, and creative collaborators.

Every project is approached with care, precision, and an understanding that stained glass is both an artwork and an integral architectural element. Our aim is always to preserve as much original material as possible while ensuring the long-term stability and beauty of each piece.

Conservation, Restoration & Repair

Our studio is highly experienced in the conservation of historic stained glass. Each window or panel is carefully assessed before treatment, with all work carried out using appropriate traditional methods and current best practice.

Services include:

  • Conservation and restoration of stained glass and leadlight
  • On-site (in situ) repairs
  • Structural stabilisation of stained glass panels
  • Conservation of historic painted glass
  • Reassembly of damaged or partially lost panels
  • Repair and replacement of broken glass pieces
  • Lead and solder joint repairs and localised strengthening
  • Re-cementing and weatherproofing
  • Protective glazing solutions

All conservation work is undertaken with sensitivity to the original craftsmanship and historical significance of the glass.

New Work — Design, Glass Painting & Fabrication

In addition to conservation, we undertake the design and fabrication of new stained glass windows.

Drawing on traditional techniques—including kiln-fired vitreous painting, silver stain, and hand-leading—each piece is created with the same level of craftsmanship and material integrity found in historic work. Whether responding to an architectural brief, complementing existing heritage windows, or developing an original design, new work is approached with careful consideration of context, light, and longevity.

Commissions are undertaken for private, ecclesiastical, and architectural projects.

Condition Reports & Assessments

We provide detailed condition reports for stained glass windows and panels, often required for heritage projects, maintenance planning, insurance purposes, or prior to building works.

Reports include:

  • Detailed condition assessments
  • Photographic documentation
  • Identification of structural issues
  • Conservation recommendations
  • Prioritised repair schedules

These reports provide a clear understanding of the condition of the glass and support informed, responsible conservation decisions.

Quotations

We provide clear, transparent quotations for conservation, restoration, and repair work. Site inspections can be arranged where required to accurately assess condition and determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

The studio regularly collaborates with architects, heritage consultants, builders, and property owners to provide specialist advice on stained glass.

  • Advice for heritage restoration projects
  • Guidance during building renovations
